Abstract
Fibular shortening and external rotation deformity we have faced in the management of ankle fractures result in permanent disability by causing degenerative arthritis. Our goal in this paper is to underline the problem of fibular shortening we have seen after the application of the A.N.K. (Ayhan Nedim Kara) instrument which is a new method in the management of syndesmosis ligament injuries of the ankle, substituting rigid transfixation by enabling functional treatment. Fibular shortening was observed in 26 ankles of 84 patients who were admitted to the Orthopedics and Traumotology Department of Taksim State Hospital from January 1987 to October 1991. Among these patients, 20 of them had comminuted fractures of fibula while the other 6 had oblique fractures.
Özet
Ayak bileği kırıklarının tedavisinde karşılaştığımız fibula kısalığı ve dış rotasyon deformitesi, ayak bileğinde, dejeneratif artrit gelişimine yol açmakta ve önemli derecede sakatlıkla sonuçlanmaktadır. Bu çalışmamızın amacı, ayak bileği sindezmoz bağ lezyonlarının tedavisinde rijit transfiksasyon yerine fonksiyonel tedaviye imkan veren, elastik fiksasyon sağlayan yeni bir yöntem olan A.N.K (Ayhan Nedim Kara) cihazının uygulanması sonucunda karşılaştığımız fibula kısalığı problemini irdelemektir. Ocak 1987-Ekim 1991 tarihleri arasında Sağlık Bakanlığı Taksim Hastanesi Ortopedi ve Travmatoloji Kliniğinde tedavi gören 84 hastanm 26 tanesinde fibula kısalığı oluştu. Bu hastalann 20 tanesinde fibula parçalı kırığı, 6 tanesinde de fibula oblik kırığı mevcuttu.
