To reduce blod 1055 and transfusion requirments, twenty seven consecutive total knee arthroplasties caried out were divided into two groups by releasing tournique for hemostasis. In Group i patients whose tourniques were released for hemostasis, blood loss ware measured peropeartive and hemovac drain was 93S±31 O ml, presumable real blood 1055 was 11S4±329 ml; however, in group if patients whose tourniques were released after the application of compressiye bandage in lower limb the above mentioned values were 840±229 ml, 1031±239 ml respectively. The differences betwen and within the two groups each, needed blood transfusion and patients in each group were administered two units of blood. Mean Preoperative Hgb values in patienst given blod transfuaion were 12.4± 1.43 grldl whereas in ten patiens who did not require blood tansfusion mean Hgb values were 14. 1±1.S0 grldl and the difference was statistically importand (P<O.OS). We came to the cone/usion that in total knee arthroplasty, tournique release for hemostasis before wound e/osure does not have any stasitically important effect on blood 1055.
