Abstract
Between the years 1981-l986 in the Department of Orthopaedics and Travmatology of Gülhane Military Medical Academy and Faculty, Michell operation has been performed in 19 cases and Lapidus operation has been performed in 26 feet of 23 cases with hallux valgus.\nResults of the operations in two groups were evaluated and compared with each othere. We obtained % 84.3 successful results in cases which we had performed Mitchell operation. The success was % 92.3 in cases which we had performed Lapidus Operation. Our results are congrous with the literature. Lapidus operation is technically more simple and cosmeticaliy more satisfactory. It has a greater union rate on the osteolomy site. Its success rate is greater in severe cases. Because of fhese special features of the Lapidus operation, we concluded that it is more effective han Mitchell operation.
